Natural stone is known for its durability and beauty. However, in order to maintain the original
appearance of your basin, certain maintenance is required. Variations in surface colour are also to be expected from one basin to another.
Like all natural products, special care must be taken when handling and installing stone basins;
the surface may be susceptible to scratching or staining, especially if it comes into contact with
adhesive or sharp objects, and the body of the bowl should be protected from bumps as this can result in chipping.
By nature, natural stone is often porous and a water-resistant sealer, specific to natural stone,
is recommended as an initial treatment to avoid the appearance of water stains, which should
be repeated every 8-10 months, or as per the sealant manufacturer’s instructions.
A wax treatment too can be used to maintain the shine of the polished stone, and add an
additional layer of protection to the surface.
Daily Maintenance
No strong cleaning products are needed to clean these basins: instead, they should be cleaned
regularly with a little PH neutral soap (Marseille soap, black soap, washing up liquid), and rinsed well with warm water.
Avoid abrasive products, acetone, ammonia, detergents, anti-limescale products and hand soap containing dyes, or aggressive or solvent-based acids and/or bases.
In the case of limescale, black soap is the most effective, or small amounts of diluted baking soda can also be used to remove stains.
If the surface has dulled slightly, a wax suitable for use in basins can be applied in a thin layer
which will restore shine and add a layer of protection.
Natural stone basins are hard wearing, and if cared for, will maintain their original aspect. They
are however sensitive to acidic products and bleach and the use of harsh chemicals could damage it. Also avoid contact with food (oils), fat, alcohol or chemicals products such as hair dyes.
